Bobby Holik scored two goals, including the winner 1:08 into overtime to give the New York Rangers a 3-2 victory over the Washington Capitals in their 2003-04 finale on Saturday at the MCI Center. Mike Green also scored for the New York Rangers, who finished the season at 27-40-7-8. For Green, the goal marked his first in the NHL. Jeff Halpern scored twice for Washington, marking the first time this season he had more than one goal in a game. His second at 6:31 of the second period tied it at 2-2. Halpern has been one of the few bright spots for the otherwise anonymous Capitals, scoring in three straight games and recording 20 points in 19 games. Washington will close its season in Pittsburgh on Sunday. Halpern (of the New York Rangers) put the Capitals ahead at 7:54 of the first period, before Green tied it just under seven minutes later. Both first period goals came one second after penalties had expired. Holik made sure New York Rangers' power play converted at 4:44 of the second period with a slap shot over the shoulder of Olaf Kolzig, who finished with 32 saves. Halpern was left alone for a shot in front to tie it less than two minutes later. New York Rangers goaltender Jamie McLennan turned aside 22 of 24 shots to mark his first win with New York since being acquired from Calgary on March 6.
